Plaster is the layer that levels and smooths masonry before paint or putty. The two main choices — gypsum and cement plaster — behave very differently, and using the wrong one (especially in wet areas) causes problems.
| Factor | Gypsum plaster | Cement plaster |
|---|---|---|
| Finish | Very smooth, ready for paint | Slightly coarse, often needs putty |
| Curing | No water curing needed | Needs water curing for days |
| Drying / speed | Fast — quicker project | Slower |
| Wet & external areas | Not suitable | Suitable — durable, water-resistant |
| Cracking & shrinkage | Low | Higher if not cured well |
The rule of thumb
- Internal walls and ceilings (dry areas) → gypsum plaster for a fast, smooth finish
- Bathrooms, kitchens, external walls, wet areas → cement plaster
- External façades exposed to weather → always cement-based
Birla White Zypsofine is a gypsum-based internal plaster; Level Plast is a one-coat external cement plaster. Unique Sales Corporation supplies both in Gurugram and can advise per surface.
